What Pearl Lemon Catering & Events Taught Me About Growth, Grace and Building Business the Right Way

Melanie Martin building strategic business relationships in Spain, supporting international cultural consultancy, commercial partnerships, business networking and international expansion through Gold Button International.
Building trusted relationships on the ground because successful international partnerships begin long before the first event.

Since stepping into the Pearl Lemon Catering & Events division as a freelance Sales Director, I have had the honour of helping open doors, build relationships and secure opportunities that once felt far bigger than the room I was standing in.

This role became one of the places where I truly strengthened my wings.

Through faith, caffeine, determination, late-night calls, fast-moving ideas and the blessing of the right connections at the right time, I was able to single-handedly help secure lucrative catering, events and brand activation contracts for Pearl Lemon with names including:

Vodafone.
KPMG.
Charlotte Tilbury.
Adidas.
WWE.
Rimmel.
Footballing clients.
Commercial projects in Milan.
Coffee catering in Barcelona.
Bubble tea activations in London.

Every contract taught me something different.

Some taught me speed.
Some taught me precision.
Some taught me how to hold my nerve in high-pressure corporate event environments.
Some taught me how powerful relationships really are.
Some reminded me that no matter how big the brand, people still buy from people they trust.

From corporate catering and luxury event experiences to brand activations, office launches, private celebrations, international catering projects and last-minute commercial briefs, I learned how to turn a conversation into a contract, a lead into a relationship, and a simple enquiry into long-term business value.

But the biggest lesson has never just been about revenue.

It has been about people.

Every role gives you more than a title. It gives you an army of friendships, phone numbers, personal calls after hours, suppliers who go the extra mile, clients who become contacts for life, and team members who quietly carry the weight behind the scenes.

I have learned that saying “I appreciate you” means very little if the follow-up does not match the words.

Appreciation is not just a message.
It is how you treat people under pressure.
It is how you speak to your team when things are moving fast.
It is whether you protect the people helping you build.
It is whether you honour the value they bring when nobody else is watching.

I am deeply grateful for every chef, supplier, event partner, operations support, creative, driver, assistant, and behind-the-scenes problem solver who helped bring these experiences to life.

The client may see the final canapé, the branded coffee cart, the luxury juice activation, the corporate event set-up or the polished delivery.

But I see the people.

I see the calls.
The changes.
The pressure.
The ideas.
The WhatsApps.
The problem-solving.
The loyalty.
The gold.

And I will never take that lightly.

Business growth done properly is not about trampling over people to reach the next deal. It is about building with honour, leading with integrity, strengthening your skillset, and taking the lessons with you into every room you enter next.

Pearl Lemon Catering & Events gave me a platform to sharpen my sales, deepen my event strategy, build international catering experience, and prove what can happen when resilience, faith, creativity and commercial focus all meet in one place.

I have gleaned from the experience.

I have grown from the pressure.

And I have carried the lessons forward into every business conversation, every client relationship and every opportunity since.

Because when God strengthens your wings, He does not just teach you how to fly.

He teaches you how to rise with grace.
