Fortune Is in the Follow-Up

Finding the right contact? That’s step one.
Reaching out, introducing the product or service, and getting them interested? That’s step two.
But the real power, the key to closing deals and driving revenue, is in what comes next.

I’ve seen it time and time again. Sales reps and business owners put in the effort to make initial contact, have a great conversation, and get a prospect engaged. But then? Silence. They assume that if the prospect is interested, they will come back on their own. That is where the biggest opportunities slip through the cracks.

I learned early on that people are busy. They may genuinely be interested, but their inbox is flooded, their phone is ringing, and their to-do list is never-ending. If I am not actively keeping the conversation going, I am forgotten. It is as simple as that.

That is why follow-up is the lifeblood of sales. It is not about being pushy; it is about staying present. A quick #email checking in, a #LinkedIn comment on their latest post, or a WhatsApp message reminding them that I am here. It all adds up. When the time is right, I want to be the first person they think of.

The same principle applies to every part of life. #Relationships thrive on #communication. If you never check in with a friend, the friendship fades. If you do not nurture a marriage, the connection weakens. Even parenting is just one long series of follow-ups, reminding, nudging, and encouraging until something sticks.

This is why I rely on CRM systems to track every interaction, schedule follow-ups, and ensure that no opportunity slips away. If someone says “not right now,” I take that as “not right now, yet.” There are countless reasons why someone might not move forward immediately- bad timing, budget constraints, internal approvals- but unless they explicitly say, “Never contact me again,” the door is still open.

Sales is not just about the first conversation; it is about staying in the game. Deals are won by those who consistently follow up, keep the conversation going, and show that they are genuinely invested.

So, ask yourself, how often are you following up? Are you leaving potential business on the table simply because you assumed silence meant rejection? Because in my experience, the real fortune is in the follow-up.
